From the mid-sixteenth century the Netherlands began to host a growing Jewish community that settled mainly in Amsterdam, taking advantage of the relative religious freedom. The Dutch capital became the most important center of the Sephardic Jews in Western Europe, becoming considered the Dutch Jerusalem.
In this tour you will have the opportunity to learn about the culture, wealth and influence of the Jewish community in the city.
You will get to know the most relevant monuments of the place, walk the Jodenbreestraat (wide Jewish street), meet some important inhabitants of the neighborhood such as Di Pinto, Rembrandt and Spinoza, discover the Jewish traditions that still accompany its inhabitants today, learn about the most important historical data that took place during the Second World War and recognize the undoubted contribution of the Jewish people to the development of commerce in the city.
