Walking Tour through Baku Old City
Overview of the tour in Baku
First we meet at a meeting point that suits each of us. We are starting to move towards the old city. I show you the old city walls and tell you about their history, and we enter the city. And we start a very exciting round trip. Firstly, I show you the Quadrangle Fortress, built during the Shirvanshah state and used as a weapons depot. As we walk through the walls of the fortress, we can see on the right walls some of the weapons from the time of the Shirvanshahs and the Safavid Empire and used in the battles with the Ottoman Empire. And then we reach the Shirvanshahs palace complex, built in the 12th-15th centuries. After getting acquainted with the mysterious history of this complex, which is included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO, we proceed to the Museum of Miniature Books, which is included in the Guinness Book of Records. And so our route gets acquainted with the Juma Mosque and the Maiden's Tower, built in the 12th century for defensive purposes and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. After a short tour of the souvenir shops and the Multani and Bukhara caravansaries, we leave the Old City again through the Double Fortress Gates.
