From Canals & Victorians to Today's City
Overview of the tour in Birmingham
Come and explore this amazing city with a local guide. We look at the early development of Birmingham right up to the present day. From the Georgian industrial growth and the coming of the canals. Then on to Victorian times when the town developed as a world center of industry and coped with huge social and infrastructure issues.
We hear how Joseph Chamberlain became the Lord Mayor and, with others, set about improving the town. Moving into the 20th century, brutalist concrete architecture and today's city are moving forward all around us - a very modern and fun city. Our walk is around 3 km in length, takes 2 hours, and includes central canal towpaths and city squares.
Part of every ticket sale and any donations at the tour end are donated to Sifa Fireside, a Digbeth-based charity that helps street dwellers in our city.
