Overview
The first movie filmed in Colombia dates from 1915. With the name of “El drama del 15 de Octubre”, it recounted the murder of the Liberal caudillo Rafael Uribe Uribe under the direction of the newly arrived brothers Di Doménico. They were also the founders of the former famous Olympia theater, a place of meeting for the seventh art fellow lovers. Around 1924 the movie “Aura o las Violetas” is filmed in various and notorious places of the city. The movie is based on Jorge Isaac’s work, “María”.
It is important to mention the number of films, documentaries, and newscasts between 1920 and 1940. Many of them were able to show tidily the Bogotá of yesterday just entering into the modern world.
