Overview of the tour in Bologna

Bologna has the oldest university in Europe. Some historians claim that even in the world, ever since the Middle Ages, the city has been characterized by a rich student life whose fame has reached, from the very start, the whole Western world.

Starting from public lectures of savvy jurists in the 11th century, the University of Bologna claimed the most important spot in Medieval Europe for the study of law. More recently, its students have been protagonists in the social struggles that exploded during the 60s and the 70s, playing a key role in Italy for the formation of extreme left social movements. The struggles of social movements against authorities are still an ongoing phenomenon that characterizes the typical life of a student in this city, and many ongoing battles echo through its streets.

This tour, given by a student at the University of Bologna, will explore the history of the university by visiting all of the places that are witnesses to a piece of its history.

What makes this tour special is the insight into the underground social struggles of the students that are not narrated in mainstream media.
