Cusco Day Trip - Sacred Valley
Overview of the tour in Cusco
The Sacred Valley: only 15 km north of Cusco as the crow flies, but it feels a world apart from the bustling city. Twisting, winding roads lead you down to the valley floor where the Urubamba River floats lazily. The Andes mountains soar to incredible heights on all sides, some glacier capped-from here you have views of the Salkantay, Wakay Willca and Chicon glaciers. It’s easy to understand why the Inca considered this place the heartland of their vast empire, and evidence of how the Inca thrived in this place is everywhere-in the vast agricultural terraces carved into the mountains and the archeological ruins that dot the landscape. It’s best to take your time and not rush when exploring this place; take the time to soak in the peacefulness, listen for Quechua still being spoken by the locals, appreciate the traditional way of life still being lived here, walk through ruins left by a fascinating Empire and learn about ancient customs and practices. Places we visit may include: Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Maras and Moray. Note: It is impossible to visit all these in one day. The group will have to decide which sites to visit.
