Explore Dakar & Historic Goree
Overview of the tour in Dakar
Morning departure from the hotel for a city tour of Dakar, visiting the capital's various points of interest: the Cathedral of African Memory with its Byzantine-style architecture, the presidential palace with its Red Guards, the Place de l'Indépendance with its colonial-style buildings that rival modern ones, the train station and its typical spice market.
Passing the Grand Mosque of Dakar, with its imposing minarets that gather thousands of worshippers every Friday, the monument of the Renaissance. Visit the craft village of Soumbédioune and its various trades (basket weavers, sculptors, weavers, jewelers) and a sand painting gallery. Lunch.
You will then go to the pier to board the boat that will take you to the island of Gorée after a 20-minute crossing. Gorée is an island steeped in history and marked by the sad slave trade. Visit the Fort Estrée, now home to the historical museum, the Maison des Esclaves, and the Castel, the island's cliff where the Gorée Almadie Memorial is located.
