Durres - Historic City Tour

Overview of the tour in Durres

On this tour, we’ll explore Durres's history, starting with the newest fort, the Ottoman fortress from 1501. We’ll begin at Torra Veneziane to learn about the city’s seafront history. Then, we’ll see the ancient walls of Emperor Anastas in the Kala neighborhood. Along Epidamn Boulevard, we’ll see how the city developed, leading to the Port and City Square construction in the 1930s.

We’ll also visit religious buildings in the castle area and discuss their past and present roles in the community. Finally, we’ll explore the Amphitheater of Durres, its surrounding houses, and the history of excavations there, from the earliest discoveries to current plans for research and preservation.

On arrival

You can reach the Venetian Tower of Durrës by walking, biking, or taxi (with free public parking available). I will be situated within the western wing of the Venetian Tower, adjacent to the Monument a Martyr, renowned as the figure with an open hand. URBAN DISCOVERIES city tours sign.
