Athrur's Seat Hike with a Mountain Guide
Overview of the tour in Edinburgh
If you'd like to experience the outdoors without leaving Edinburgh, then you should join me on a hike up Arthur's Seat.
We meet on the Royal Mile - outside Holyrood Palace, the King's official residence in Scotland - and walk together to the summit of Arthur's Seat (251 meters / 823 feet).
The busy city quickly disappears as we enter Holyrood Park and immerse ourselves in nature. Surrounded by wildflowers, trees, and animals, it's easy to forget that we're still in Edinburgh.
As we walk higher we see views of the city, the sea, and the countryside. Then once we reach the summit, we can enjoy panoramic views of the whole horizon.
I like to avoid following the crowds up the hill, choosing a more scenic - and less strenuous - route. This quieter path allows plenty of opportunities to stop, enjoy the views, and take pictures.
Usually the whole hike takes 2-2.5 hours, and ends back at the starting point, at the end of the Royal Mile.
