Essaouira, a former Mogador built on a rocky peninsula, has a rich history dating back to the 8th century BC. The city's main founder was Alaouite sultan Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah, who entrusted the construction to Theodore Cornut.

Essaouira is a lively fishing port with a bustling market for sardines and crustaceans. Visitors can enjoy sardine grilled outdoors and explore the Sqala du Port, a crenelated bastion protecting the harbor and city. The Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions is located in the Kasbah.
