Hike to the Stunning Pastoruri Glacier
Overview of the tour in Huaraz
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel before departing at 8 AM for a scenic drive south of Huaraz. First, we’ll visit Recuay at 3300m, then continue to Ticampampa (3400m), Catac (3500m), and Pachacoto. From there, we’ll head east on an unpaved road, passing through stunning highland landscapes filled with straw fields and traditional sheep herders.
After 15 km, we’ll stop at Patococha Lake for birdwatching, where you can spot wild ducks, Andean geese, and caracara birds. Next, we’ll visit a natural gasified water spring before heading to the giant Puya Raymondi flowers. We’ll also stop at the changing-color lake of Pumapampa, where the sun’s radiation and mineral-rich water cause striking color shifts.
Continuing, we’ll explore ancient petroglyphs before arriving at Pastoruri Glacier parking. Once there, enjoy a walk around the icy lake and ice cave. After a few hours, we’ll drive back to Huaraz, arriving around 6 PM.
