Walking Tour Around Kalamta
Overview of the tour in Kalamata
Our walking tour commences at the central square of Aristomenous, gathering at the fountain. From this starting point, our path leads us northward into the historical center of Kalamata. En route, we'll encounter monuments and sculptures crafted by renowned Greek artists, such as the Monument of Light, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the revolution against the Ottoman Empire.
Continuing our journey, we'll pass by the esteemed "REX" hotel, established in 1899, a venerable landmark steeped in the city's history. Our route then guides us to the Church of the Holy Apostles, a remarkable structure dating back to the late 11th century.
To conclude our exploration, we'll head south through one of Kalamata's oldest streets, Lonto's Stoa, and follow the trail of the old train, leading us to the historic train station. Nestled within the train park, this serves as an ideal spot to take a break and enjoy a coffee if you haven't done so already.
Our final destination awaits at the port of Kalamata, near the Coast Guard building, a site steeped in history as the former center of trade and home to the old flour mills.
