Overview of the tour in Lake District

Orrest Head is featured in Wainwright's book 'The Outlying Fells of Lakeland,' and he describes it:

"our first ascent in Lakeland, our first sight of mountains in a tumultuous array across glittering waters, our awakening to beauty”

Most visitors follow the paths marked on the main welcome board. This takes you straight up to the viewpoint through woodland and misses the beauty of some of the surrounding countryside. Instead, we'll walk along public footpaths on a circular route, enjoying woodland, fields & varied views before reaching the summit. I'll also share everything I love about this area, including:

My dad is a dairy & sheep farmer in South Lakeland, and his farm supports five families producing delicious, award-winning cheese, running glamping accommodations & making gorgeous felts. We'll discuss the importance of the wool industry to this area, how farming has shaped the landscape, and the future of farming.

Things to note

This walk is through woodland & over fells, on paths which could be muddy & slippy when wet, and as such walking boots, wellies or trainers (that you don't mind getting dirty) are recommended. To gain the best views, there will be some uphill steep ascents. The Cumbrian weather can also be unpredictable, so the blue sky views aren't guaranteed, but an adventure is :-)
