Discover the Basilica of San Isidoro with our local experts, which is probably the most important monument in the city of León. Having connections from its origin to the Leonese monarchy, kings and queens such as Fernando I, Doña Urraca, or Alfonso IX protected, rebuilt, and enriched this 1000-year-old construction for centuries.
It wasn't an empty effort to choose a place of eternal rest for a number of members of the royal family, the bodies of whom rest in the Royal Pantheon, which is a place for the best set of Romanesque paintings in Spain to be preserved, known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Romanesque.”
San Isidoro is also the seat of the first courts held in Europe, those of 1188, in which representatives of the three states met, and that was the germ of future parliamentarians. The start of the visit is in the Plaza de San Isidoro, at the height of the Fountain of Neptune. Our guides will go with a RED umbrella/jacket with our company name, Leonesa Tours (Guided Tours).
Things to note
The visit does not include the entrance to the Museum of San Isidoro, which will be free for customers, since guided tours of the interior are not allowed.
