Overview
Livingstone, twinned with Funchal (Madeira, Portugal), is a city rich in history and culture, with many colonial buildings still intact. The tour begins at the Livingstone Museum, offering a detailed look into the town's history and the culture of the Leya tribe of Zambia. The museum, originally the Old Town Centre, was designed by a Spanish-American architect and built in 1934. It showcases Zambia's history, from its Bantu origins to the colonial era, and features a clock donated by the Susman Brothers in honor of their arrival in Northern Rhodesia, now Livingstone.
Next, we explore one of Livingstone's oldest residential areas, where a street honors John Hunt, a curio trader who supported Zambia's independence. You’ll see the Old Hospital (1905), St. Andrew's Church in memory of David Livingstone, and the Old European Library (1921).
