Overview

South of the river, far from the authority of the City, Southwark was, for centuries, a place of excess, crime, and death. Its streets housed taverns full of outlaws, prisons where convicts suffered inhuman torture, and forgotten cemeteries where society's outcasts were buried without ceremony.

On this tour, we will begin by exploring St. Paul's Cathedral and move on to the cultural and historical legacy of Southwark, iconic London bridges, Shakespeare and the world of Elizabethan theater, and visit old taverns where criminals and sailors shared shipwreck stories. We will visit the oldest prison where torture was routine and cemeteries that reflect the evolution of the city. We will also walk through emblematic streets and buildings that have been the scene of important events and traditions, ending with a walk that will connect us with London's past and present.

You will understand why it was Queen Elizabeth's favorite walk.
