Overview

After a woman named Emma Smith was brutally murdered on the 3rd April 1881 the local police opened up a special file under the name “Whitechapel Murders” and by mid-February 1891 it would contain the details of eleven murders the like have never been seen again. The file was eventually left unclosed, with all murders unsolved.
The murders were committed in the districts of Spitalfields and Whitechapel, two of London’s most poverty-stricken, overpopulated and crime-ridden neighborhoods - a breeding ground for criminals, prostitutes and layabouts. We are going to look at some of the murders in detail together with local events, clues and possible suspects. I have a few photos of the sites and area taken soon after to help us return to 1888. Warning - these murders were extremely brutal and descriptions of the injuries are given, so this tour is not for the sensitive person. You will learn how and when the name “Jack the Ripper” was given to the murderer of five of the above murders. This tour is not for the faint-hearted!
