La Latina and Lavapiés Free Tour
Overview of the tour in Madrid
We will start our tour next to the impressive Basilica of San Francisco el Grande, and head to the Plaza de la Cebada. Here, we will meet Beatriz Galindo, "La Latina", an influential humanist of the 15th century. We will also discover the history of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of Madrid, learning about his miracles and the importance of his festivities in the local culture.
The tour continues to Plaza de Cascorro and Ribera de Curtidores, where we will talk about the Rastro Market, one of the oldest flea markets in Europe. We will tell you curiosities about this emblematic market, a reflection of Madrid's life and commerce.
Moving on, we will arrive at Lavapiés, where we will talk about the popular festivals that fill its streets with vitality. We will visit the Escuelas Pías, the San Fernando Market or the Corrala de Sombrerete, an example of the old social housing that was the community nucleus of the capital.
