Madrid Walking Tour: Origen from Villa to Corte

Overview of the tour in Madrid

We'll start the tour in the Plaza de la Ópera and from there we will discover the city's origin. We will see the remains of a Muslim watchtower and the Plaza de Oriente's spectacular Royal Palace (former Muslim Alcazar).

We'll visit the remains of the Muslim wall and learn about the history of the Almudena Cathedral and its legend. We will see the remains of the church of San Juan (where Velázquez was buried). From there we will enter the old medieval city walking its streets along the viaduct to see one of the best views of the old city from Las Vistillas and then meet the church of San Pedro, San Nicolás, Plaza de la Paja, Plaza de Carros , and Capilla del Obispo and the church of San Andrés. There we will learn about the history of San Isidro and his house (Palacio de Los Vargas).

We will get to know the old town of Madrid of Alfonso VI and its picturesque squares. We will go through the La Latina neighborhood to reach the magnificent Plaza Mayor, the center of the Austrias neighborhood.

We tour the Madrid of the Austrians knowing the old prison (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the Plaza de la Villa and from there we will arrive at the Puerta del Sol where the tour will end.

On arrival

The meeting point is the Statue of Isabel II in Plaza del Isabel II in Ópera, lines (2, 5, and Ramal). Very close to the Royal Palace and Puerta del Sol. I go with a blue European Union flag.
