Menorca Free Walking Tour: a Picturesque UNESCO Biosphere Reserve

Would you like to find yourself in a paradise in Spain without the annoying crowds of tourists? Then, you can visit Menorca, the second-largest island of an archipelago off eastern Spain, which is home to charming little villages, vineyards, and a golden bay. The Phoenicians named Menorca as Nura, meaning “The Island of Fire.” It combines a nature reserve and a unique historic center with old fortresses and cobbled streets.

Secret Corners of Spain: Discover the Peaceful Beauty of Menorca

Menorca is one of the few islands in the world where the entire territory is considered a nature reserve. Here, the rarest representatives of fauna live, and the flora pleases the eye with its lush trees and flowers. However, not only Menorca’s nature is impressive: let's find out about five attractions for which you can order a free walking tour of Menorca with our guides.

- Santa Maria church. The capital of Menorca, Mahon, has the largest natural harbor in the Mediterranean and is characterized by a mix of architectural styles. You can explore Mahon on foot, so don't forget to visit the Church of Santa Maria, built in 1748, and the Town Hall, with its stunning neoclassical facade, which is a few steps away.

- Museo de Menorca. Take a free tour of the National Museum of Menorca. Housed in a Baroque monastery, it presents the unique Menorca’s history. It houses a unique collection of archaeological objects from the Talayotic, Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic periods. There, you will also see historical maps, sculptures, and other works of art.

- Fort Marlborough. Fort Marlborough, located at the southern end of Mahon harbor, was built in the 1720s by the British. Here, tourists have the unique opportunity to witness a historical re-enactment of the siege complete with special effects and soldiers in uniform, for just three euros. They can also walk through tunnels and rock-cut rooms, enjoying views of Cala de Sant Esteve, as well as the ruins of Castell de Sant Felip and the Torre d’en Penjat.

- Binibeca. The fishing village of Binibeca is just a few minutes' drive from Mahon. It was built in the 1970s by the Spanish architect Antonio Sintes Mercadal in the Moorish style, with its narrow streets and whitewashed houses. Here, you can visit the central Plaza Mayor with the main village church, from where you can stroll around the center or go to the sea for diving.

- Binitord Bodega. This family-run winery is located about 6 km from the village of Ciutadella. It was built on the site of an abandoned quarry. The Binitord Bodega’s owners follow the sustainability principles in wine production. Here, you can taste and buy various delicious wines, including white, red, and rosé (their prices start from 15 euros for 750 ml), as well as the craft product, vermouth.
