Old Delhi was initially known as Shahjahanabad named after Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor who established the city the same emperor who built the Red Fort here and also the Taj Mahal in Agra. Old Delhi is soaked in rich cultural history with its Mughal era monuments. The Mughals considered Old Delhi as one of their most important places. A large number of citadels, strong and historical forts and palaces were built here during their rule. it is still considered as the perfect representation of Islamic architecture, culture and lifestyles. One can taste heavenly Mughlai cuisine in Old Delhi. There are also quite a few options for vegetarians where most of the people flock for some lip-smacking delicacies.

If you are coming by your own transport, you must ensure that your driver calls on the number mentioned above before he starts from your hotel to understand the location and meeting point.

Things to note

Warning based on some recent incidents: . There are many shops that work as Government Tourist Office in the city but they are impostors. Gov. Tourist has only one office, which is at Janpath Road. If someone tells, the tour is cancelled or the area is closed today because of some demonstration, request not to get into any kind of stories.
