Overview

The oldest and most famous neighborhood of New Orleans is the French Quarter. It is the city's very first neighborhood, founded in 1718 as a French Colony on the Mississippi River. On this tour, we will explore this iconic neighborhood and learn about some of the city's most interesting events and historical figures.

We will visit Jackson Square and see the oldest building in New Orleans, the Ursuline Convent. On this tour, we will also talk about Spanish Colonial Architecture and its positive effects on the living conditions of the city.

We will also see the French Market which indigenous people used as a trading post prior to the foundation of the colony going back centuries. We will also see Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar, where you will learn about Jean Lafitte, the city's most prolific pirate, and his role in the Battle of New Orleans.

Meeting point

Jackson Square near the Andrew Jackson Statue

On arrival

I will be standing near the Andrew Jackson statue 10 minutes before the start of the tour. I will have a khaki and orange backpack, and I'll be wearing a cap and sunglasses. I will have my phone on me at all times. Please feel free to text me if you are running late or need help finding me. The tour typically starts on time, but if you are a few minutes late, the group remains in Jackson Square for at least the first 20 minutes of the tour.

Things to note

If you need anything before the tour begins, I recommend going to Empanola at 632 St. Ann St. They have coffee, empanadas, and water. You can also go to PJ's Coffee at 501 Decatur St for coffee and pastries, but no public restroom is available. If you do need a restroom, there are public restrooms across the street from Jackson Square on Decatur St.
I also recommend always being prepared for rain. In New Orleans, rain showers can form very quickly and without much notice.
