Safari Boat Trip at Gatun Lake of the Panamá Canal
Overview of the tour in Panama City
We'll start our journey from your hotel, heading to the town of Gamboa, where we'll board a small boat to explore the scenic Gatun Lake.
Gatun Lake, a freshwater lake built in 1914, serves as the main reservoir for the Panama Canal. It’s surrounded by national parks rich in biodiversity, known collectively as the Canal Basin.
Our two-and-a-half-hour boat tour will cover various sections of the lake, immersing us in the incredible diversity of Panama’s flora and offering chances to spot wildlife such as brown-throated three-toed sloths, Hoffmann's two-toed sloths, white-faced capuchin monkeys, mantled howler monkeys, green iguanas, crocodiles, basilisk lizards, green herons, keel-billed toucans, and oropendolas.
As we cruise, we'll also observe the impressive traffic of ships navigating the Panama Canal, from container carriers and oil tankers to sailboats and cargo ships.
Along the way, you'll glimpse significant landmarks of the canal, including the famous Culebra Cut, its narrowest point, and the Chagres River, the lake's primary water source.
