Dive into the beautiful atmosphere of the fabulous old city of Panama. Casco Viejo of Panama was recognized by UNESCO as a cultural and architectural importance and listed it as a World Heritage Site.
Panama City, founded in 1519, sadly, was destroyed in 1671 by pirate Henry Morgan destroyed. But a few years later, a Spanish conquistador Alonso Mercado de Villacorta rebuilt Casco Antiguo five miles south of its original location. In 1751 the area became part of the Viceroyalty of New Granada and was later joined with Columbia.
