Walking Tour of 19th Century Galleries & Passages
Overview of the tour in Paris
A tour of 18th and 19th-century Paris, though it's covered shop-filled pedestrian passages, (or galleries).
Starting from the 9th arrondissement, we walk down Rue du faubourg Montmartre, commenting the presence
of a Banksy museum along the road.
Not only a tour of the architecture, but also comments about some of the shops, and what is being done to revive these old shopping centers.
The group will be introduced to an example of a Bouillon restaurant, and the history of the Bouillon restaurants, which were popular in the 19th century but seem to be having a comeback. Going back more in time, the group will be introduced to the concept of arcade shopping, which preceded the 19th galleries.
The readings rooms of the National Library will be shown built in the 19th century, and afterward showing the arcade shopping of 18th century Paris - Palais Royal.
The tour ends in front of the Commedie Francais, on the other side of the Palais Royal.
