On the right bank of the River Seine lies a big hill named Montmartre, literally translating “Mountain of the Martyr”. This beautiful and atmospheric neighbourhood is the birthplace of 19th century Impressionism and the Bohemian centre of Paris. We avoid the obvious and cliché, opting to examine the essence of Montmartre through its most famous residents. Monet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Dalí, and Picasso. Onward, we travel down cobblestone lanes and visit the country mills the daring converted into cabarets, such as the iconic Moulin Rouge.
