Overview

Our city tour of Potsdam starts at the old market square in the historic center. Old and new stand side by side here. But what is old, and what is new? Let's take a closer look together.

We continue to the Neuer Markt, through small alleyways to the city canal and past the Nicolaisaal before passing our car-free pedestrian zone, where the "Boulevard of Film" was started in 2024. Through hidden backyards, we reach the Dutch Quarter. And if there's still time, we'll visit the Bassinplatz and look for the Bassin.

Our tour is not only about the history of the Prussians, who had a lasting influence on the city's appearance but also about what Potsdam was like during the DDR and under the National Socialists. And what's new in Potsdam today? Let's find out!

“Nice tour!”
Ann has just completed her training as a tourist guide and you can tell that she has been trained. She knows her way around and knows how to explain things. I don't expect a dry lecture, I want entertainment, and Ann has a pleasant way of introducing places. I can only warmly recommend her!

“Informative and kind”
Thanks to low season and another participant’s no-show, I was lucky to get an individual tour with Ann. She walked me through the history of Potsdam and was flexible enough to adapt to my interests and pace. She provided both historical and updated fact that made my visit interesting. I would recommend Ann to anyone wishing to learn more and go deeper into how Potsdam came to be.

“Super interesting even if you are from Potsdam”
I had a friend over from Ireland and she really wanted to go on a walkibg tour and i stumbled across Anns tour. I wasn’t even sure how much bew stuff i eiuld learn because im from a hostorian family that lived in potsdam all their lives. All my facts might have also gotten in my own way of the tour at the beginning. Ann however was very kind and patient and gave us a wonderful tour I can only recommend (tourists and locals alike). She’s a certified guide whi does a fabtastic job to show you the history of old and new potsdam with more then a fair share of crazy fun facts. A big thank you to Ann. Can only recommend to just go ahead and try it out as a fun little sidequest and to get some insight on how potsdam was built and sustained. So honestly do yourself a favor and book this tour.

“Mehr, tiefgehender und unterhaltsamer als erwartet”
The Potsdam tour was an experience! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the history and architecture of the palaces and sights. His lively narration and friendly manner made the tour particularly exciting and informative. I've been on a few tours and sometimes you can tell the difference between a guide who does it on the side and one who has had extensive training on the exact sites being visited. This was an official guide from the city, so he had a completely different background knowledge than I know from other free tours. I can recommend this tour to anyone visiting Potsdam.

“Learn a lot, laugh a lot - tour on foot in Potsdam with a guide ”
The guide gave me a good introduction to the historical sights. He gave me explanations, background information and connections that made the whole thing very tangible for me. I didn't really want to go, but my partner persuaded me and now I'm really glad I went. A lot of details and the wider context of the history would otherwise have passed me by if I'd looked at it on my own. The tour in Potsdam was interesting and the content was told in a very good and relaxed way. Thank you for the tour.
