Prague, the Gorgeous City on the Vltava River: Free Walking Tours to Get to Know

Prague is a Czech capital whose centuries-old history is connected with modernity. Also known as the "City of a Hundred Spires", it will surprise you with its Gothic cathedrals, stone pavements with stunning architecture, majestic palaces built in the Romantic style, as well as famous pubs where you will be able to taste the authentic Czech beer. Regardless of whether you want to explore – historical sights or walk along the streets to feel the spirit of the locals, – it will offer you an unforgettable experience. Particularly, you can enjoy all this during our free walking tour in Prague.

Journey Through the Modern Prague: Architectural Monuments from Romanesque and Gothic to Art Nouveau and Functionalism

Prague is a city that will charm you at first sight with its medieval aesthetics and the modern city’s dynamism. Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning again, there will be places you have not been to or have just passed through! So, let’s check the main attractions you visit during our Prague city tour.

Charles Bridge

This is one of the most famous European bridges which connects the Old Town with the Lesser Town. It is 516 m long, decorated with thirty statues of saints, and offers stunning views of the Vltava River and the city’s ancient architecture. Walking across the bridge is free, but it is best to come early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid crowds (especially if you want to take photos).

Prague Castle

This is the largest castle complex in the world, which is used as the residence of the President of the Czech Republic. It is also home to the famous St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, and Golden Lane. Entrance to the castle is free, but visiting some sites (for example, St. Vitus Cathedral) may require a fee and purchasing a ticket, the cost of which starts at 250 CZK.

Old Town Square

Founded in the 12th century, this sight is the historical center of the city, surrounded by majestic buildings such as the Tyn Church and the Old Town Hall with the Orloj astronomical clock. Every hour you can watch a small theatrical performance with moving figures, which is especially attractive for tourists who are here for the first time.

Petrin Tower

This is a miniature version of the Eiffel Tower, located on Petrin Hill, from the top of which you can admire a stunning panoramic view of the entire city. You can climb the tower on foot or by funicular. The entrance ticket costs about 150 CZK.

Dancing House

Finally, you should visit this modern architectural symbol of the city, designed by Frank Gehry. The shape of this building resembles a dancing couple, hence its name. Inside the building, there are offices, galleries, and an observation deck with a cafe, from where you can enjoy the outstanding city views.

Practical Information and Tourist Tips

Despite the abundance of options to get to know Prague in person, only a few of them are able to tell tourists about this city without embellishment. For example, such are our walking tours led by experienced guides who know the history of literally every stone of this beautiful city.

So, let’s talk a bit more about our Prague walking tours – they last about 1-7 hours and are available in English, German, French, Italian, Dutch, Hebrew, and Russian. However, to obtain the freshest information and these free walking tours, it’s better to check the details of each of them directly on our website.

Let’s check several tourists’ reviews on our free tour in Prague:

How to get to Prague

There are several ways to get to Prague. The first option is to travel by direct bus or train from neighboring European cities such as Vienna, Berlin, or Budapest (travel time is between 4 and 7 hours – it depends on the departure point and the type of transport you choose). Alternatively, you can fly here to the city's main airport, Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG), located just 17 km from the center (to reach the center, you can take a direct bus departing from Prague Hradcanska Station station and arriving at Prague Airport Terminal 1/2). There are also other nearby airports in Dresden (135 km) and Vienna (330 km), from where you can travel directly to Prague by bus or train (the trip will last about 2 and 4 hours for these cities accordingly).

Final Thoughts

If you are a fan of Old Europe and love its unique architecture, you should definitely visit Prague if you haven't done so yet. Our free walking tours will help you with this, which you can book in advance for a convenient date.
