Overview
The San José de Mashpi community, located in the Mashpi Guaycuyacu and Shaguangal protected natural reserve in the Pacto parish, is a small town that covers more than 17,156 hectares of riverine rainforest. This area has been declared a Natural Protected Zone. In the community, there are natural tourist attractions with great potential for the sustainable development of the sector.
The native forest in the area has suffered minimal human intervention and is home to an exuberant flora, with species of great value, such as cauchillo, cedron, walnut, and cinnamon, among others. In terms of fauna, the diversity is remarkable, with a wide variety of birds and a large number of amphibians, which have a high biological value and contribute to both research and tourism development in the region.
