Sao Cristóvao and Vasco da Gama History Tour
Overview of the tour in Rio de Janeiro
Let's take a trip back in time to one of Rio's most traditional neighborhoods, São Cristóvão, the former imperial quarter of Brazil. The Portuguese royal family, who later became the Brazilian imperial family, lived here. We start from our meeting point at the São Cristóvão metro/train station and first go to Quinta da Boa Vista Park, where the Emperor and his family lived. As well as being an extremely pleasant, green, and cheerful park, it is home to the National Museum.
After the Museum, we'll walk through the old and bucolic streets of São Cristóvão to another part of the neighborhood of immense historical relevance: the headquarters of the Vasco da Gama Regatta Club, including the São Januário Stadium and its surroundings as one of the meeting points between history, the present and the emotion that only soccer provides.
All this in one of the city's most historic neighborhoods and on the edge of the Barreira do Vasco community, which does not bear the club's name in vain. Built-in 1927 by the Vasco fans themselves, São Januário carries with it the history of soccer and also of Brazil.
