Free Cultural Tour through San Cristobal de las Casas
Overview of the tour in San Cristobal de las Casas
We will start our free tour by meeting at the central park, under the MUSAC clock. It is important to identify us through the "free tour red umbrella". We will begin by exploring on foot the imposing neoclassical facade of the city museum, one of the emblematic buildings of the city.
We will continue the tour revealing various curiosities about the history of the state of Chiapas. Its roots date back to the 16th century, and in the case of San Cristobal, it was founded on March 31, 1528 by Diego de Mazariegos. After discovering other interesting anecdotes, we will head to the church of Santo Domingo, whose façade is the best preserved in the south of the country.
The next stop will take us to the traditional market, where we will be able to observe the food that the locals harvest and consume. We will walk through the historic center. Finally, we will conclude the tour with recommendations to taste the typical dishes and the traditional drink of the region, the pox.
