Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures Tour
Overview of the tour in Sarajevo
We will begin the tour by visiting the Old Orthodox Church, one of the oldest churches in Sarajevo. The iconic Sebilj wooden fountain located in the heart of Baščaršija square is a must-see landmark in Sarajevo. As we walk through Baščaršija, constructed in the 15th century, we will explore the oldest street in Sarajevo and also visit the Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque, the largest mosque in the city. Nearby, we will find the most beautiful mosque in Europe, with a unique Clock Tower that famously shows an unusual time for the 20th century. The Sarajevo City Hall is an impressive Austro-Hungarian-era building and will be a highlight of the tour. We will also learn about the Jewish community that has existed in Sarajevo for almost five centuries. After passing the "Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures" spot, we will continue in the direction of the modern part of the city that emerged with the arrival of the Habsburg monarchy. We will see the Cathedral and the statue of Pope John Paul II, who visited Bosnia twice. The tour will end at the famous Latin Bridge, the site of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which triggered World War I.
