Šibenik – A Croatian gem of nature
Šibenik, the picturesque city of Dalmatia is the oldest native Croatian town on the seashores. This is where the Krka river flows into the Adriatic Sea, but that’s not the only natural beauty that the city has: Just west of Šibenik one can find the Kornati archipelago, which is the most dense of its nature in the Mediterranean Sea with its 150 islands on 320 km2 (124 sq mi). The Krka National Park is only 18 km (11 miles) away, famous for its fascinating waterfalls and sights, much like the Plitvice National Park.
Four fortresses, namely Tvrđava Sv. Mihovil, Tvrđava Sv. Ivan, Tvrđava Šubićevac and Tvrđava Sv. Nikole provide spectacular view on the city and its environment. The Cathedral of St. James (Katedrala sv. Jakova), the renaissance-gothic church in Šibenik, a participant on the UNESCO World Heritage list is the most visited sight in the centre.
