Overview of the tour in Sofia

Rila Monastery and Boyana Church Tour is a full-day tour that visits two very important sites in Bulgaria's history. Starting with the Rila Monastery which is by far one of the biggest and most important orthodox cloisters in Bulgaria. Since 1976 it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its fascinating architecture and history. Located in the thick forests of Rila mountain, the environment itself adds a lot of depth to its ancient background.

Close to the monastery, there is a legendary cave where the founder of the monastery, St. Ivan Rilski, lived in harmony with nature until he was buried there.

The second part of the tour features the glorious Boyana Church which is located a little bit out of Sofia. Receiving its UNESCO title in 1979, the building boasts Byzantine architecture and historical interior designs. The church dates back to the early middle ages and owes its recognition to the colorful frescoes on the walls that display 89 different scenes with over 240 human figures.
