Essential Diocletian's Palace & Split Old Town
Overview of the tour in Split
Peristyle, Vestibule, Diocletian's Mausoleum aka Cathedral of Saint Domnius, Jupiter's Temple, City Hall, Medieval Town, and MANY MORE! Let's explore all the MUST SEE places inside this 3rd Century Roman Emperor's Villa-Fortress while I tell you an interesting story about Split and Croatia, its people, culture, history, etc. You will learn what Greeks were doing on the Adriatic coast in the 3rd Century BC, Who were Illyrians, and what in the world the 3000-year-old Egyptian Sphynx is doing in Split!
So, who was our main character, Diocletian?
Diocletian wasn't your average Emperor. Think of him less like a stuffy guy in a toga and more like the ancient Roman version of a savvy CEO. He saw the Roman Empire was a hot mess – too big to handle, full of corruption and pesky barbarians at the gates.
So, what did he do? He completely overhauled the system, and then he retired! Unimaginable in those times, when emperors would usually get poisoned or stabbed to death. Not this guy.
Join me on this very interesting tour, and I will tell you all about it while we walk around the architectural masterpiece that is his retirement home.
