Journey Through Vienna: Discover Its Timeless Sights
Vienna, the capital of Austria, is considered one of the oldest cities – in 16-15 BC, the Romans, led by the future emperor Tiberius, occupied the foothills of the Alps, laying the foundations of the modern city. In addition to outstanding architecture, you can also get acquainted with its musical heritage and walk through picturesque parks. So, what sights can you visit during the Vienna city tour by FreeTour?
St. Stephen's Cathedral
This is one of the central symbols of Vienna, which will definitely surprise you with its unique architecture and long history (its opening date is 1578!). Entrance to the main hall of the cathedral is free, but a fee of 3-7 euros is charged for climbing the towers or visiting the catacombs.
Ringstrasse
The Ringstrasse boulevard "wraps" around the center of Vienna. Here are the Vienna Opera, Parliament, and Town Hall, whose facades can delight even seasoned tourists and, what’s the most pleasant thing, for free!
Uhrenmuseum
On the first Sunday of the month, you can visit magnificent Uhrenmuseum for free to see one of the most extensive collections of antique watches in Europe. The regular entrance fee is 8 euros.
Hermesvilla
On the first Sunday of the month, you can go for free to this villa museum, formerly owned by Empress Elizabeth, which contains her personal belongings and documents. The regular ticket price is 8 euros, too.
Wiener Rathaus
This stunningly beautiful neo-Gothic building seems untouched by the years. Nowadays, people hold open-space events in front of it, such as film festivals and Christmas markets. As for the entrance, the official tour is free (with an audio guide available).
Zentralfriedhof
Vienna's central cemetery, originally called Zentralfriedhof, offers you the opportunity to see unique mausoleums and visit the graves of many famous composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms.

There are several ways to get to Vienna: the first one is by flying to the Vienna Airport (VIE). You can get to it using The City Airport Train (CAT) – it connects the airport with Vienna city centre (the trip will take just 16 minutes). The train stops at Platform 3A, or, being an Austrian Airlines passenger, you can also go to the CAT terminal in Wien Mitte station. However, if a flight is not an option for you, you can also get to Vienna by bus (from nearby countries like Germany (there are bus stops in Berlin and Frankfurt, and the trip lasts about 8-9 hours) and The Czech Republic (you can go to Vienna from Prague by taking the EuroCity train; the trip will last about 3 hours only)).
