Vigo Free Tour: Your Perfect Holiday in North West Spain

Vigo is famous for its rich cultural heritage, stunning beaches, and seascapes. It is a place where you can enjoy both history and modern lifestyle. So if you are looking for a cozy place to relax then you should visit this city and plan a Vigo city tour.

Vigo Tourists Spots: What to See?

The city offers a huge variety of attractions that will satisfy all tastes - from historical to natural and this is a good reason to visit Vigo. Below we would like to share with you some places in the city that are worth visiting.

MARCO Museum of Contemporary Art

This museum can be considered one of the best museums of contemporary art in Spain. Meanwhile, it does not have a permanent collection: the museum works exclusively on temporary exhibitions. The museum is located in the heart of the commercial quarter of the city, in the pedestrian area of Calle Principe. The building, completed in 1880, was initially planned to simply house prison cells, but later a court with a small guardhouse began to operate here. Entrance fee: 5 euros.

Cies Islands

This amazing archipelago is located opposite the coast of Pontevedra and the mouth of the Vigo River. It was declared a nature reserve in 1980, and since 2002, its territory has included the National Park "Atlantic Islands of Galicia". But it is not only nature lovers who are attracted to the islands: in February 2007, the British Guardian declared Rodas Beach on Monte Agudo the best beach in the world. To visit Cies, you need to go by ferry (a ferry ticket costs about 16 euros round trip).

Vigo Old Town

Vigo Old Town is small, and it does not take too much time to walk around it. Expect to make a circle of about 1.5 km in an hour and a half - you will not go wrong. It should be noted that the Old Town is almost entirely ups and downs with and without stairs, but walking along them is not too tiring.

Galicia's Museum of the Sea Bene Riobo

This museum boasts one of the largest permanent exhibitions in Vigo. Although temporary exhibitions are also held here regularly, always thematically related to the sea and fishing. The Museum of the Sea is a great place to learn about the maritime history of the region in general and Vigo in particular: fishing, seafood, and its role in local cuisine, ecosystems, and conservation. The exhibition covers a wide range of time, from fragile boats and primitive methods of salting fish to modern methods of freezing the catch and technical innovations that serve marine biologists.

Quiñones de Leon Museum

The Municipal Museum of Vigo is the best place to get to know the culture, art, and traditions of Galicia. It occupies a magnificent authentic mansion in Castrelos Park. The museum has only 29 rooms reserved for permanent exhibitions, and its lower floor still retains the atmosphere and decorative finish of the old residence. In the museum, you can admire works of art from the 18th to 20th centuries, as well as an impressive collection of European paintings from the 17th to 18th centuries.
