Shellfish gathering on foot is one of the most emblematic activities of the Rías Baixas. I invite you to enjoy a walk along the beach while I explain what my job is like.
I am passionate about what I do and love sharing it.
Go ahead! We will start the visit from the beach jetty, where I will show you the different fishing techniques with a brief demonstration. You will understand the importance of spring tides and why the moon is our guide.
I will teach you to differentiate the species of clams that we collect so that you are not fooled by "cat for hare". While we walk towards Carril, I will explain why the beach is full of sticks and their usefulness.
I will tell you how to become a shellfish gatherer and what this dangerous job entails, accompanied by first-hand anecdotes. We will end up in the Alameda Vella Park, next to the Lonja, where I will explain the final process: the sale and auction of the seafood.
To top it off, we will enjoy unique views of Cortegada Island and its impressive laurel forest.
