Explore the Charm of Stone Town
Overview of the tour in Zanzibar
Embark on a fascinating 6-hour tour of Zanzibar's capital, Stone Town, starting with its iconic stone-built architecture. Enjoy a visit to the historic Stone Town Market (established in 1904) and shop for a variety of Zanzibar products, from spices to crafts.
The tour continues to the Old Slave Market, now home to the Anglican Cathedral of Christ. Zanzibar was once a central hub for the slave trade until its abolition in 1873, which led to the closure of the market. Here, you’ll see the dark chamber where slaves were confined, as well as the "weeping post," where slaves were tested for strength.
Take a short walk through the narrow streets of Stone Town, where buildings date back over 200 years. You’ll pass the Princess Salme Museum at Emerson on Hurumzi. Princess Salme, the Sultan’s daughter, fled after falling in love with a German man.
We’ll also visit the Music Museum at the Cultural Building, where you can immerse yourself in the history of Zanzibar’s music scene, legends like Fatma Baraka (Bi Kidude), and the traditional instruments used.
