1. Museum Island
A little Island in the river Spree which houses five beautiful museum buildings in its northern half and sees over three million people visit every year. The five museums of Museum Island are the Bode Museum, which contains sculpture exhibits as well as late Antique and Byzantine art works, Altes Museum (Old museum) which is home to the classical antiques collection, Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) housing a wealth of art including Neoclassical, Romantic, early Modernist and Impressionist works and the Neues Museum (New Museum) which exhibits Pre-History, Early History and Egyptian collections. The buildings themselves are architectural marvels of their time while a stroll around the island itself is not a bad way to spend an hour or so. Hint: Visit on Thursday nights when all the museums on the island are free to enter from 6pm to 10pm.
