Fronting the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik is a unique destination thanks to its historic legacy. It is easy to feel the past of the city while walking its cobbled streets, roaming around the medieval walls, or visiting the perfectly preserved forts. If you are planning to spend 3 Days in Dubrovnik, read this guide and follow our tips!
With so many things to do, it is a challenge to decide what to see and how to spend your getaway in this Croatian gem. We have prepared this guide so you can plan your trip and get some ideas on how to spend your holidays in Dubrovnik.
You will probably want to discover the most iconic places of Dubrovnik on your first day, so dive right in by joining a Free Walking Tour around the Old Town! It is the best way to see the main attractions in Dubrovnik by foot, and you will surely appreciate the explanations from your guide. You can expect fun facts, legends, anecdotes and the history of main spots such as the Cathedral or the Rector’s Palace. When the tour finishes you can continue to explore on your own or enter the attractions that interest you the most before enjoying a well-deserved lunch!
As you might know, Dubrovnik has become a mecca for Game Of Thrones fans in recent years, and we have an entire article dedicated to must-visit GOT filming locations. Check it out if you want to discover these spots in the city!
After resting for a while you can take the cable car to the top of Mount Srd. Considered one of the best viewpoints in Dubrovnik, it is the perfect place to admire the sunset over the Old Town. The ride itself is an unforgettable experience as you can see the city becoming smaller on your way up.
The second day calls for more adventure! You should spend your second morning walking the Medieval Walls. These fortifications were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site back in 1979, and are undoubtedly a must-visit in Dubrovnik. They are almost 2 km long and include 6 fortresses, so make sure you eat a big breakfast before coming here!
You’ll need to buy a ticket to enter, which costs a bit less than 30 euros, and we recommend that you buy it online so you don’t have to wait in line. It can seem a bit expensive, but it includes a one-time access to the Dubrovnik City Walls and a visit to the nearby Lovrijenac Fortress within 3 days of purchasing the ticket. So you get two city attractions in one ticket!
After this long walk you’ll probably want a refreshing afternoon, so we suggest going to the Beach Šulić. Located in Kolorina Bay, near Lovrijenac Fortress, it is one of the oldest swimming spots in Dubrovnik. If you don’t fancy the idea of going to the beach, you can spend your evening roaming around Dubrovnik West Harbour. This little spot, located between the old walls and the fort, offers some of the most picturesque views of the city. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
On your third day in the city you can go shopping for local products and souvenirs for you and your loved ones. One of the best places to do so is Stradun, the main street in the city. This limestone-paved pedestrian street is lined with shops and charming cafés, and it is very popular among locals and tourists.
Another good option is to visit the main open-air market in the city. It is located near Gruž port, on a square, and it is the locals’ favorite place to buy fresh products and typical food. It closes at 1:00 PM, so make sure you visit it in the morning!
If you have spare time, you can visit the Sponza Palace. This beautiful Gothic-Renaissance building dates back to the 16th century, and through the years it has served as an armoury, a treasury, a bank and even as a school. Nowadays it contains the Dubrovnik State Archives, and is a popular tourist attraction in the city.
After spending three days in Dubrovnik, you might want to explore the surroundings. Here are two great day trips from Dubrovnik that we strongly recommend to discover more of the area!
Visiting Lokrum Island is a great option to escape the bustle of the city. A 15-minutes trip by ferry will take you here, where you can visit the ruins of the medieval Benedictine Monastery that once owned the entire island. You can also wander through the botanical gardens located on the eastern side of the island or cool down in one of the many swimming spots. It is a great day trip for nature lovers!
Another charming destination close to Dubrovnik is Mostar. This city, the fifth-largest in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is known for the Ottoman bridge built over the Neretva. Considered an exemplary piece of Islamic architecture in the Balkans, this landmark attracts visitors from all around the world. As the city’s alleys are full of shops and market stalls it won’t be difficult to spend a whole day walking around, shopping souvenirs and local products and discovering the best things to do here.
We hope that this guide will help you discover the best things to do in the city. As a popular destination with a rich legacy, it is not difficult to enjoy your time here, and 3 days in Dubrovnik will probably fly by!
